Halloween Horror Theatre FestivalWEEK 1 - War of the Worlds
This is a dramatic recreation of the 1938 radio broadcast by Orson Welles. This production will include the original script, along with live sound effects being created by foley artists (foley is the term for sound effects that were created in the broadcast studios using found objects...for example, unscrewing a mason jar slowly while it is being held in a toilet bowl to get the sound of a flying saucer rotating). Multiple actors will provide their voices. The show will also feature commercials done in an old radio style interspersed. Directed by Cole Marquis. WEEK 2 - A Frightfully Funny Night of Comedy! For a Frightfully Funny evening The Comically Impaired, Wilmington's longest running comedy improv group, will take suggestions from the audience and incorporate them into Halloween- themed hilarity followed by the Original Comedic One-Acts Die, Zombie, Extra Die!, & Buyers Can Be Bloodthirsty by local playwright Elaine Alexander. An evening of fright and delight! WEEK 3 - The Witch, the Troll, & the Hairy Man The Witch, the Troll, and the Hairy Man (and a few of their friends) come together for this delightful collection of stories you might not have heard before. Featuring puppetry, masks, and storytelling, this production is not too scary…recommended for ages 7+. Adapted & Directed by Gina Gambony WEEK 4 - Death Bed: The Play That Bites The old story of a man, a dream & a struggle to the death with killer furniture. The lost 70's cult classic came to the stage, live in 3-D! In 1973 George Barry wrote, directed and produced Death bed: The Bed That Eats. It would not be officially released until 2003 (then on DVD) but would go on to become a cult classic through a pirated edition in Europe. Wilmington’s own inventor Jock Brandis worked on Death Bed as a Gaffer and made The Bed actually “eat”. Gwenyfar adapted the film to the stage and added a “making of” element to Act One. |
